Tell Congress: Improve Our Federal Health Care System

I'm writing to you today calling for you to support the following healthcare bills: 

- SPEAK Act (H.R. 2092) 

- CONNECT Act (H.R. 4206 / S. 1261) 

- Medicare and Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act (H.R. 2309) 

- The Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act (H.R. 1509) 

Together these bills offer the necessary reforms in the healthcare system to cut both wasteful spending and improve the healthcare services that millions of Latinos rely on every day. 

The SPEAK and CONNECT Acts work together to expand telehealth access. The SPEAK Act directs the Department of Health and Human Services to improve telehealth services for the more than 25 million Americans with limited English proficiency, nearly two-thirds of whom are Hispanic. The CONNECT Act complements this by easing burdensome restrictions that restrict telehealth access, like restrictions on where the patient or provider may be located and what kind of provider can offer telehealth.  

The Medicare and Medicaid Fraud Prevent Act, in contrast, focuses on improving health care services by ensuring that current spending continues to go only to those that it was initially intended for. During the fiscal year of 2024, more than $50 billion in improper payments were made by Medicare and more than $30 billion were made by Medicaid. Had states checked whether the healthcare provider was alive, such as this act requires, so many of these improper payments could have been avoided. 

Lastly, the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act works to improve access to life saving out-of-state health care for Children on Medicaid. Oftentimes due to bureaucratic red tape, children with complex medical conditions are not about to get the specialized care they need if it crosses state lines even though a large portion of the cost of Medicaid. This bill would streamline the Medicaid provider screening and enrollment process making it easier for children to receive care from these providers more rapidly and safely.
